"It's Vegetarian, Ya'll."
In the Kitchen with the Farmer's Wife

Welcome to my online cookbook. I would like to dedicate this effort to two of the best cooks I have had the pleasure of knowing, my two grandmothers. One was Southern and the other wasn't. Under their tutelage, I learned to prepare everything from aioli and gnocchi to pintos and cornbread (and a lot of stuff in between.) The main thing I learned from them is that every recipe you prepare needs to have a pinch of invention, a dash of creativity and a dab of fearlessness. And a big dollop of love. Thanks, Grans, this is for you.

About the Recipes
There is a mistaken perception that Southerners eat nothing but greasy, meaty, fatty, fried foods. Nothing could be father from the truth. In fact, Southern Cuisine is heavily influenced by vegetables because most people in the south have access to a long season of fresh vegetables.
The recipes included here are mostly vegetarian and often Southern influenced. Some of these recipes contain eggs, milk or cheese but many can be made as vegan, using a little imagination.
Also, the recipes here are written exactly the way I talk, asides included, so if you don't understand something, email me at simplysustainable1@gmail.com and I will get back to you as soon as I can. There is much commentary from the Cook, so you should be fine. Those of you who are accomplished cooks probably won't need my detailed instructions but these recipes are for everyone, no matter what their level of skill. I try to periodically add recipes so check back for new ones. Since I am into heirloom foods, I have put some general information about certain veggies here with the recipes, just for fun.

Now, follow me out to the kitchen...
